Sharyn's Tilauskakku, a boutique bakery that sounds like Sharyn

The online home of Helsinki cake artist Sharyn Kujanpää: a tropically warm heart, Nordic precision. A site where ordering a celebration cake feels as easy as messaging a friend.

What we built

Starting point

Sharyn Kujanpää is a Philippine-born cake artist who bakes in shared kitchens in Helsinki: one woman, one oven, one cake at a time. Orders came in through Instagram and word of mouth, but the same questions repeated in every message: how much does it cost, which flavours, can you make next Saturday, do you deliver to East Helsinki. Sharyn needed a place that tells the story of the cakes once, properly, and frees her to bake.

Brand

We wanted the site to feel like stepping through a café door. A dark espresso background, warm cream and a single gilded accent give a boutique feel without anything shouting. DM Serif Display carries the headings, the same serif that sits well on old Parisian patisserie signage. Body text stays clear in Outfit, and a handwritten Playball signature brings the personal-brand feel without tipping into kitsch.

Sharyn's own story, Manila, Cebu, then Helsinki, runs under every page: a tropical heart, a northern hand. That is not a tagline. It is the mood of the whole site.

The front page video hero

On desktop the front page opens with a slow video that moves with the scroll: close-ups of batter, cream being piped, the final gold-toned decorations. On mobile the same hero is a still image, so no one has to wait on a 4G connection. That one change dropped the phone payload from over 12 megabytes to under one.

An order form in four steps, with one live sketch

Ordering has always been Sharyn's bottleneck: the customer wants a fast answer, Sharyn needs enough detail to price from. We built a four-step form, occasion, flavour & size, details, contact, and next to it a living sketch that updates every time the customer changes a choice.

The cake draws itself on screen like a hand-made sketch: a vintage stand, tiers rising layer by layer, decorations such as macarons, berries or silver pearls, and a green cascade between the tiers. Between the bases, the tier counts and the decorations, the sketch draws roughly fifteen hundred different cakes, and the customer picks theirs before sending the order. When they finally press send, the same message goes straight to Sharyn's email, and optionally to WhatsApp with one click.

Gallery

Six signature cakes, each with its own story: Ube from the purple Philippine yam, Brazo de Mercedes from a floating sheet of meringue, Fruit cheesecake with seasonal fruit, Napoleon with classic puff-pastry layers, Velvet with red-velvet softness and Mocha with Finland's best-loved pairing of coffee and chocolate. Each has its own product page and its own order path.

The official side, done properly

A small boutique bakery does not mean the legal side matters less. Quite the opposite. In the same project we built order terms, a privacy policy, company details and a cookie policy, all reachable from the footer. A customer sees at a glance that there is a real business behind the site, not just an Instagram account.

Automation in the background

Sharyn does not sit watching her inbox. Every order and enquiry triggers an automatic email to her the moment the customer presses send. In practice the customer often gets an answer the same day, and Sharyn gets to focus on what she does best: baking.

The outcome

A site that looks expensive but works for a one-person business. Its own domain sharynstilauskakku.fi, accessibility and privacy handled, and on desktop a mood that stops people scrolling for a few seconds. Sharyn gets more clear orders and fewer "how much would it cost" messages.

Result

A boutique mood that carries through the whole site. An order reaches Sharyn in a minute via WhatsApp, and the customer sees their cake as a sketch before pressing send. From concept to live in three weeks, with a custom domain and the official company pages in the same package.
